Our process
At Scott Architects, we follow the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) guidelines to deliver thoughtful, innovative, and compliant designs. Our service is structured into six key work stages, providing a clear roadmap from first ideas to final construction:
STAGE 1:
Inception
Every great design starts with understanding. In this phase, we take the time to explore your vision, requirements, and budget. We gather essential information about the site, local regulations, and your aspirations. Through hand-drawn sketches, site visits, analysis, and personal consultations, we align expectations and lay the groundwork for a successful project.
STAGE 2:
Concept and Viability
This is where ideas begin to take form. Using the insights from Stage 1, we develop initial design concepts that reflect your brief while exploring creative possibilities. We assess the feasibility of the project by considering site conditions, budget constraints, and municipal or heritage regulations. Expect plenty of hand sketches and early design explorations as we shape the framework of your future space.
STAGE 3:
Design Development
With the concept approved, the design starts to mature. We refine floor plans, elevations, materials, and integrate the input of consultants where needed. This stage also involves preparing submissions to local authorities, including municipal and heritage bodies, for approval. This is when your project comes to life visually — through detailed 3D models and realistic renderings from our design software.
STAGE 4:
Documentation and Procurement
Now the vision becomes buildable. We produce the technical construction drawings, specifications, and documentation required for approvals, tendering, and construction. We assist with selecting and appointing a contractor, and ensure all technical drawings and documents are clear, precise, and ready for site execution.
STAGE 5:
Construction
We oversee the construction process, making regular site visits to monitor progress and quality. We help ensure the project is built according to the design, timeline, and budget. Any issues that arise during construction are handled collaboratively and professionally.
STAGE 6:
Close-Out
As the project nears completion, we assist with snag lists, final inspections, and ensuring compliance with all building regulations. We hand over a completed, ready-to-enjoy space, along with all the relevant documentation.
